MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Karl-Anthony Towns set a franchise record for points with 62, including 44 in the first half, but the Charlotte Hornets erased an 18-point deficit and stunned the Minnesota Timberwolves 128-125 on Monday at night.
Towns only had four points on 2-of-10 shooting in the fourth quarter, when the Timberwolves were outscored 36-18. He thought he was fouled on a basket attempt in the final seconds with Minnesota trailing by a point and then came up short on a 3-point attempt on the game’s final possession.
Miles Bridges scored 28 points and Brandon Miller had 27 for the Hornets. Leaky Black snatched the ball away from Towns on his way to the basket to preserve the Hornets’ victory, their 10th of the season.
Charlotte took the lead for good at 122-121 on a PJ Washington floater with 3:21 left. LaMelo Ball added 18 points for the Hornets, who had lost seven of their last eight games and had the third-worst record in the Eastern Conference entering Monday’s game.
Towns finished 21 of 35 from the floor, including 10 of 15 three-pointers, and now owns the three highest-scoring games in the Timberwolves’ 35-year history.
