The Japanese car manufacturer Toyota takes the crown as the world’s best-selling manufacturer for the fourth time in a row. Last year, a sales record of 11.2 million vehicles was achieved, the company announced on Tuesday. According to its own information, Toyota recorded a global sales increase of 7.2 percent last year, to which sales from the truck division Hino Motors and the small car manufacturer Daihatsu also contributed.

In addition, there are record sales of 8.9 million vehicles overseas. Sales of pure Toyota vehicles rose to a record 10.3 million cars. Hybrid vehicles accounted for around a third of this. Purely battery-powered electric vehicles accounted for less than one percent. Second-placed German rival Volkswagen reported earlier this month that sales rose 12 percent last year to 9.2 million vehicles.
