Toyota’s Successful First Quarter in Europe Driven by High Demand for Hybrid Cars

Toyota Europe has had a successful start to the year. From January to March 2023, they were able to sell a total of 291,721 vehicles across Europe. This not only corresponds to an increase of 2.5 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, but also marks the most successful first quarter since 2008.

The main reason for the growth is the high demand for Toyota and Lexus hybrid vehicles, which rose by four percent in the first quarter. 72 percent of all vehicles sold in Europe now have a sole or supporting electric motor.

With a market share of 6.6 percent, Toyota remains the second best-selling car brand in Europe. A total of 278,752 vehicles were sold in the first quarter of 2023, which corresponds to an increase of three percent compared to the same period last year. The most popular model series were Yaris Cross, Yaris, C-HR, Corolla and RAV4, which accounted for 74 percent, or almost three quarters of total sales. Lexus sold 12,969 vehicles in the same period, increasing its share of electrified vehicles in total sales to 83 percent. (awm)
