2023-09-08 12:00:00

Track laying work is expected to begin by the end of 2025 or early 2026.

The tram line will be developed as an extension of the current STIB line 62 which has its terminus at the Eurocontrol stop. It will therefore connect Brussels, to NATO headquarters in Evere, and to Zaventem airport.

With the new line, a journey from Brussels-North to Zaventem will take around 30 minutes over a distance of 12 kilometers of which 4 kilometers remain to be developed.

The Brussels Region had already issued the permit for the missing 400 meters on its territory. From now on, the construction of the section located in Flanders is also authorized.

Compared to previous programs, the current schedule has been slightly modified. Previously, work was expected to begin in early 2024, but it may not begin until late 2025 or early 2026.

The tender procedure to appoint a contractor will be launched. The duration of the work is estimated at four years. The new line will be operational by the end of the decade, according to the Flemish company in charge of coordinating the project.
