Tracking Dog Not Needed: Cops’ Flair Uncovers Drug Traffickers in Nivelles Courthouse

For those familiar with the Nivelles courthouse, the conclusion is simple. There is no need to equip this police zone with a tracking dog, the cops’ flair is enough to flush out the small traffickers forced to cross this zone (La Hulpe, Rixensart, Genval) to reach the center of Walloon Brabant (Wavre and Ottignies LLN) with the list of cocaine buyers and supply them with pellets which, currently, cost 30 euros.

On April 10, 2022, it was 3 p.m. when these police officers spotted a car driven by Yassir T., a twenty-year-old Brussels resident, holder of a provisional driving license. He appears to them a little too nervous during the check with a test which turns out to be positive for cannabis.

A search of the vehicle allowed them to discover 730 euros hidden in a sun visor and, above all, 68 pellets just waiting for delivery.

The man just has to confess. Yes, he was recruited (he won’t say by whom, of course), yes he got his supplies from a Brussels “nurse”, yes he has a list of buyers.

At the criminal hearing on September 4, his lawyer put forward the following explanation to explain his client’s behavior. He had a debt of around two thousand euros. He had received threats by GSM, he was afraid of reprisals, he had found this solution of “delivery man” in a sort of employee to collect the money necessary to repay the debt.

The prosecution knew the song. He requested the confiscation of the vehicle and a partially suspended prison sentence of 18 months.

The lawyer pointed out that his client had already served six months of preventive detention. The period selected runs from April 1 to 10, 2022, or around ten days. The court should take these two facts into account. This is what he did, but his judgment could be appealed because it is far from satisfying the prosecution: 120 hours of work and confiscation of the car.
