Traffic light and Union – extra billions decided for the Bundeswehr! – Politics

Clear the way for the Bundeswehr to use the 100 billion euro package!

Specialist politicians from the Union and the traffic light coalition cleared up open questions about the use of the 100 billion euro package for the Bundeswehr in a special meeting of the defense committee on Wednesday evening. The budget committee also approved the economic plan for the package.

The special fund is then to be passed in the Bundestag on Friday. Because it is to be anchored in the Basic Law, a two-thirds majority is required.

It was added that the repayment of the loans taken out by the fund of up to 100 billion euros should begin on January 1, 2031 at the latest.

The traffic light coalition of SPD, Greens and FDP as well as the Union had agreed on the legal basis for the planned special fund on Sunday evening after weeks of wrangling.

But one important person was missing from the vote: Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht (56, SPD) was at the Great Tattoo in honor of the incumbent Supreme Allied Commander Europe, General Tod D. Wolters.

In her place, SPD State Secretary Thomas Hitschler (39) took part in the vote.
