The dad worried about his absence at the nursery
The emergency services actually intervened on Wednesday at the end of the afternoon in the parking lot of the Saint-Joseph hospital on rue Marguerite Depasse in Gilly. A 6-month-old infant was found dead inside his mother’s vehicle, a hospital employee.
The baby, a little girl, was to be at the crèche in the morning. “The dad, who came to the crèche at the end of the day to pick up his child, was worried about his absence there. He then contacted the little one’s mother and there was a blank during their discussion. The latter then ran to the parking lot to go to her vehicle and discovered her lifeless child”, indicated Vincent Fiasse the King’s prosecutor of Charleroi.
This is a terrible drama of fate
The victim died of hyperthermia, a “too much heatstroke”. According to the prosecution, this is an oversight. “She stayed all day in the car. This is a terrible tragedy of fatality. There will be no autopsy since the cause of the child’s death is very clear and was noted by the medical examiner who came to the scene.”
A file has been put under investigation for lack of foresight and precaution. “The mother is not charged for the moment. But there will be an investigation to shed light on the facts. The child showed no signs of violence and was obviously well cared for”, concluded the Crown prosecutor.
The Grand Hôpital de Charleroi, on which the Saint-Joseph hospital depends, mentioned “an unnamed drama”. Among the staff, it is the shock and the most total incomprehension.

According to him, “this kind of drama is possible because we have a brain that creates cerebral automatisms that basically trigger in routine situations“. Understand that it is entirely possible to forget “the essential” when we repeat the same thing all the time. “We allow cerebral automatisms to occur without conscious reflection”believes Bruno Humbeeck. “This drama is linked to the very stressful lives we live”concludes the educational psychologist.
