Two Canadians, a mother and her 5-year-old son, lost their lives last Thursday following falling from Devil’s Bridge in Antigua, in the West Indies.

The woman and child, from Toronto, drowned in an accident while traveling, according to local media Antigua Observer.

Witnesses reportedly told the outlet that the boy slipped and instinctively grabbed his mother before they both fell into the water. It was then that the father of the family would have dived to come to their aid. The latter was allegedly pulled out of the water by passers-by who gave him mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.

It was around 8 a.m. that authorities found the woman’s body, approximately 1 hour 15 minutes following the Antigua and Barbuda Defense Force Coast Guard was notified of the incident. The child was recovered around 9 a.m. following residents in the area discovered him.
