Around 11 p.m. on Wednesday evening, a cyclist lost his life near Oudenaarde. The young man aged 22 came from a small street not far from the Scheldt. After being hit by a car, the young man died at the scene of the accident, report our colleagues from the north of the country.
The driver of the car would be Mathieu Mas (CD&V), a municipal councilor of the city of Oudenaarde. The man was a candidate in the next elections as head of the list of the “Everyone 9700” party.
According to the prosecutor’s confirmations, the driver was speeding and also drunk. He will be brought before an investigating judge. He was quickly arrested by police at the scene of the tragic accident. His driving license was immediately revoked.
The victim is from Oudenaarde. His father held office in the town.
