During the night from Friday to Saturday, a person from Deinze died, reports Het Laatste Nieuws. A car, a Toyota Hilux, was driving along the Vaart Links by the Schipdonk Canal. On board, a father of two young children who, for an as yet unexplained reason, hit a pole before losing control of his vehicle.
The 38-year-old ended his race in the water. It was only a quarter of an hour after the accident that passers-by noticed the facts. The emergency services tried to intervene to save the victim but unfortunately there was nothing more to be done. The family has been notified. An investigation is now underway to determine the exact circumstances of this tragic accident.
