Beaten with a belt and punched, doused with ice or boiling water. These are the terrible abuses that 9-year-old Raul M. had to endure on several occasions. Until her little body couldn’t take it anymore. The little boy eventually lost consciousness and died.
The child was then put in a Puma sports bag and thrown into the Houtdok in Ghent. The young Romanian lived with his 12-year-old sister, his mother and her boyfriend in Ghent, near the Porte du Barrage.
“She’s seen it all”
Raul’s family is in shock. In an interview granted to the Nieuwsblad, Raul’s uncle and his sister, Yoana, testified: “Yoana is 12 years old and she has seen everything. I can’t even imagine it. She is shocked. We are all in shock”.
Raul and his sister lived in Romania with their grandparents for five years, before moving to Belgium with their mother, who was planning to find work with us. “My parents made a lot of phone calls and video calls with the kids. But they haven’t seen Raul for the past few months. My mother always asked: where is Raul? Can I talk to him? To which my sister replied that he was sleeping, that he was outside… She always had an excuse, ”confides the uncle.
Raul’s mother, who is also called Yoana, finally replied: “Do not ask any more questions about Raul, he is dead”. She would then have explained that her stepfather had beaten her to death: “We were all in shock”.
The arrested stepfather
Raul’s stepfather, suspected of being involved in the child’s death, was arrested on Friday evening by Dutch police in Bakel (Netherlands), reports Het Laatste Nieuws. The mother had also been arrested earlier in the week.
