The Buenos Aires town of Jeppener, in the Brandsen district, was the scene of the tragic death of a 14-year-old boy who was violently run over by a 4×4 truck while jogging with a friend. The driver did not stop to assist the victim and two days after the incident, he is still at large. His family, accompanied by friends and neighbors, mobilized to demand the murderer’s appearance.

The episode took place on Thursday night, while the teenager – identified as Leonardo Pozo -, along with a friend, was running along provincial route 29, not far from his house. At that moment, a white truck hit him and dragged him approximately ten meters. The boy was left lying on the ground with serious injuries. The friend called an ambulance but when medical personnel arrived, the victim no longer had vital signs. Personnel from the Brandsen Communal Police Station also attended the scene. Despite being urgently transferred to the Francisco Caram Municipal Hospital, they were unable to save his life.

As for the driver of the truck, the only certainty we have so far is that he chose not to stop and flee the scene. For this reason, the Brandsen authorities began an investigation to locate the person responsible and began almost at the moment of the incident to analyze the recordings of the security cameras located at the entrance to the town to clarify the crime. The victim’s uncle expressed his indignation at what happened in a conversation with the TN channel: “My nephew, Leo Pozo, was jogging with a friend on the side of the road, on the shoulder, and they killed him.”

Matías, the boy’s cousin, added to the same media that Leo would turn 15 on October 12 and remembered him as “a healthy young man, appreciated by everyone at his school.” Furthermore, he indicated that it was common for him to go running with his friend. In that sense, he also provided some clues about the fugitive driver.

The teenager was about to turn 15 in less than a month

“It is believed that the person driving the truck was not from Jeppener, but from the surrounding towns, because the rear lights were covered in dust, as if he had driven on a dirt road,” the young man said. In addition, he explained that “they aim at the conscience of the person who did this and his surroundings” so that the person who was driving the 4×4 truck appears as soon as possible.

In response to the tragedy, family, friends and neighbors of the deceased young man gathered and blocked Route 29. Then, they marched to demand justice and ask for the collaboration of witnesses to help clarify the teenager’s death. “We want the person responsible” read a flag that friends and family of Pozo carried in the mobilization.

The sports club Estrella Jeppener, where the teenager attended, paid tribute to him through his official Twitter account. “His infectious smile will leave an indelible mark on all those who had the privilege of knowing him,” he said. “In these difficult times, our condolences go to his family and friends,” the institution added.

On Facebook, the club also remembered Leo with a photo of him and another heartfelt message: “The Estrella club accompanies and greatly regrets the loss,” he posted. “Rest in peace, Leo, your memory will live forever,” they concluded. Meanwhile, Jeppener High School, which the teenager attended, also spread the message on its social networks. “Because you are with us Leo, forever,” they wrote.
