On Tuesday, November 2, 2021, Zoë Snoeks, a young woman from Meerhout in the province of Antwerp, tragically lost her life in the Ardennes while she was walking with her husband. While the latter wanted to take a photo of her on the Hérou rock in Nadrin (Houffalize) with her two dogs, the young woman slipped and fell regarding thirty meters. The emergency services who intervened on site, including divers and members of GRIMP, searched for the young woman for 1h30 before discovering her lifeless body on the banks of the Ourthe.

Zoë’s family quickly doubted her husband Joeri J’s version. It appears that the couple’s relationship has been struggling for some time. A few weeks later, the man already had a new girlfriend, and less than a year following Zoë’s death, he remarried. The family filed a complaint with the Turnhout investigating judge.

“Following additional investigations, new elements recently emerged, leading the investigating judge to give the order to arrest the 36-year-old man on Tuesday morning,” said Antwerp prosecutor’s spokesperson Kristof Aerts. Joeri J. was thus placed in pre-trial detention for murder and denies any involvement.
