Swiss campers struck by lightning: “They wrote to their darlings”
The two victims had stopped in the seaside resort of Sagone, a few hours before the lightning strike.

It was in this brasserie bar “A Sulana” in Sagone (commune of Vico) in the Corse-du-Sud department that the two campers had a drink in the afternoon of Wednesday October 18 before leaving for direction of Vico.

The two campers of Swiss nationality were found lifeless by coast guards on Friday morning, October 20 while they had pitched their tent under a tree. The Ajaccio prosecutor, Nicolas Septe, confirmed the same day of the macabre discovery “that they would have been struck by lightning approximately 24 hours earlier during the violent storms which hit the region”. An investigation was opened to determine the exact circumstances of their deaths, which were nothing other than a stupid accident. The bodies of the unfortunate people were to be autopsied yesterday Saturday. At this stage, no official information on the identity of these campers or their location has been communicated. The two friends were in the seaside resort of Sagone (commune of Vico) about 35 km north of Ajaccio. They notably stopped at the “A Sulana” brasserie bar, located a few meters from the beach. Her boss remembers it and is moved when we contact her. “I am very saddened for them and their families, condolences, they came to have a drink at the bar,” she wrote on social networks.

“It was Wednesday (editor’s note. October 18), on D-day, in the afternoon. I remember two very nice, very polite young people. They must have been between 25 and 30 years old. They ordered a drink. They stayed for a while. They spoke French very well with an accent. Among themselves, they spoke in Swiss German. I am sure of it. I understand German, but this was complicated for me. They looked happy. They wrote postcards to their sweethearts,” the restaurateur tells us again. The two Swiss then headed inland to Vico to spend the night in tents.
