The Marcinelle firefighters were called to intervene last night in Marcinelle. A house was engulfed in flames on rue du Foyer. Two people unfortunately died.

A major fire broke out last night around 4:30 a.m. in a home on rue du Foyer, in Marcinelle. The emergency number 112 received several calls reporting the fire in progress with several people trapped inside the home, explains our local correspondent Fabien Vanhove. The Marcinelle firefighters were therefore deployed and arrived quickly on site.

When they arrive, the entire ground floor is on fire. “The flames are coming out of the front and back of the house”, describes our correspondent. Firefighters are therefore calling for a second firefighter departure. Neighboring houses are indeed beginning to be affected by the flames.

The fire was finally brought under control overnight. Unfortunately, two people died. “One person born in 1942 and one born in 1947.”

One of the people – the lady – was on the ground floor at the time of the fire. The other person – a man – was upstairs near the window. There was a lot of smoke in the house due to a large stock of paper newspapers.

The Charleroi police came to the scene. The prosecution is expected there this Tuesday morning.
