A 15-year-old boy drowned on Wednesday evening in the pond of the Donk recreational park, in the city of Oudenaarde, in eastern Flanders, announced the mayor Marnic De Meulemeester, confirming information from the daily Het Laatste Nieuws.
Around 5:15 p.m., the emergency services were informed of a drowning in a place where swimming is prohibited. The boy, who was with a group of friends, reportedly entered the water alone to cool off. He then found himself in difficulty, but his friends were unable to pull him out of the water. Emergency services were called and were able to pull the boy from the water, but were unable to resuscitate her.
