2023-12-28 12:11:00

A commuter died Thursday morning in Rixensart, on the railway line between Ottignies and Brussels, following jumping out of the window in a moving train, said the Walloon Brabant prosecutor’s office.

Train traffic was completely interrupted Thursday morning, from 7:15 a.m., between Ottignies and Brussels.

The Walloon Brabant public prosecutor’s office was notified at 8:50 a.m. of an unusual incident. An agitated user grabbed the hammer that is usually used to break a window in the event of a serious incident. The man broke the window and threw himself onto the tracks.

The driver of another line train, which was traveling in the opposite direction, saw a body lying on the ballast, along the tracks near Rixensart.

Railway police and a forensic doctor attended the scene.

Investigations intended to identify the deceased were still underway late Thursday morning.

Train circulation was restored around 11:30 a.m. between Ottignies and Brussels.
