Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – The Egyptian army announced the death and injury of 9 soldiers, on Monday, after a tanker loaded with ammunition capsized south of the 10th of Ramadan City (55 kilometers northeast of the capital, Cairo).
The military spokesman for the Egyptian army, Colonel Gharib Abdel Hafez, said in a statement that the incident occurred in the Al-Roubiki area, south of the 10th of Ramadan city, during “the armed forces’ implementation of one of the planned training activities and while one of the specialized units was supplying ammunition.”
The spokesman explained: “One of the tankers loaded with ammunition was subjected to a sudden overturn accident, which led to the martyrdom and injury of a number of (9) officers and other ranks.”
The spokesman said that all necessary measures had been taken in coordination with the competent authorities, and he expressed the army’s condolences to the families of the victims and his wishes for a speedy recovery for the injured.
