Relatives of the father-of-two confirmed to the Journal that he was one of two people who had been missing since Saturday afternoon.

Mr. Héon, Pascale Racine and Jean-Philippe Caty, all residents of the Capitale-Nationale, were surprised by a subsidence of the ground caused by the violent storm which devastated the Rivière-Éternité sector in less than an hour.

Wrong place, wrong time

The three victims got out of their respective vehicles to remove debris blocking Notre-Dame Street, the access road to Fjord-du-Saguenay National Park.

They were all surprised by a powerful rush of water which carried Pascal Héon and Pascale Racine towards the Éternité River, a few meters below the road.

Jean-Philippe Caty was thrown through the air and suffered serious injuries before being found stuck in the mud hours later. He has been in the Chicoutimi hospital since the events.

Bodies found

The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) found the bodies of two people near the Éternité River on Tuesday evening, after several days of intensive searches. Although it has not confirmed their identity, the SQ maintains that “everything leads to believe” that it is indeed the two forties who went missing during the weekend.

According to SQ spokesperson Hugues Beaulieu, debris that was carried away by the overflow of the river slowed the descent in the current of the two remains. They were stuck under a pile near the river when divers located them.
