Tragic Mountain Hiking Incident in the Canary Islands: The True Cause of a Belgian’s Mysterious Death Disputed

As we relay, a Belgian from Geel died this Sunday during a mountain hike in the Canary Islands, collapsed from the heat.

Her husband, who accompanied her on the hike, however, disputes this cause. Kris explained the situation to our colleagues at HLN. When they arrived in Tenerife, the couple in their fifties had planned a hike in the Guia de Isora region, in the south of the island. The high temperature that day did not put them off, both being athletic. “We knew what we were doing,” says Kris. “In October, we had planned to walk 200 kilometers in Morocco in five days”.

According to him, his wife was not a victim of the heat, contrary to what had been announced. “It was hot, yes. But not 44 degrees, as some write. It was cooler up there. There was even a nice breeze,” he says.

Ann suddenly collapsed while walking, for no apparent reason. Kris then calls for help but not being able to make himself understood, he decides to put his wife in the shade and go himself in search of help. “I had to leave it there because I couldn’t carry it. It was very hard,” he says. Kris then finds a house on her way and asks the owner to call the fire department.

Help arrived by helicopter transported the woman to the nearest village, but once there it was already too late: the Belgian had died. “I don’t know what happened,” reacts Kris in shock.
