At the end of July, the dismembered body of a woman was found in a fridge floating on the Albert Canal. This body was that of Maria, a 74-year-old resident of Jemeppe-sur-Meuse.
Ishmael, his 35-year-old son, was arrested when he intended to leave the country. Maria would have been killed and cut up around July 10, almost a month ago. Several elements had allowed the police to suspect the son of the victim, such as an anonymous call which accused the killer. The suspect then confessed and justified his actions by his family situation.
This morning, an RTL info team was able to meet Maria’s family at the funeral home. His daughter Béatrice testifies: “I feel very bad since the discovery of July 10. She was all I had left. I don’t have the words, but I must say thank you to the investigators, to everyone who worked to find her“.
“We had very strong ties, I saw her often, I went to visit her very regularly.“. Before sending her a last little word, which she will surely hear from up there: “Protect me mom, my daughter and the rest of my family. She was an exceptional mother, grandmother, godmother“.
She also returns to how she learned of the tragic death of her mother. “I have been threatened. I learned it later, but I didn’t dare say it. I was afraid that the person would do the same to me. That if I reported my brother, he was going to do the same to me. I want him to be well punished and never see him again.“, she concludes, very moved.
After a word from the priest present on the spot, Béatrice also wanted to pay a final tribute to her mother.
