At least 12 people have lost their lives following the small plane they were traveling in crashed this Sunday morning in the Brazilian Amazon.

The plane crash occurred near the Rio Branco International Airport, in the state of Acre. Local authorities informed the media that all occupants had died.

The aircraft, which was headed to the municipality of Envira, in the state of Amazonas, crashed shortly following takeoff. Several ambulances, as well as vehicles and a Military Police helicopter, have traveled to the scene.

The state government expressed its condolences to the families of the fatal victims, including the pilot and co-pilot, detailing that they will guarantee the recovery of the bodies and will try to prevent new “disasters” as a result of the fire that broke out as a result of the incident.
