A man died on Sunday evening as a result of a road accident along the Mouscron-Tournai motorway (A17), near the Marquain interchange, firefighters from the Picardy Wallonia area said.
The emergency services were alerted on Sunday evening, shortly following 11:00 p.m., of a traffic accident on the Marquain motorway interchange, in the Mouscron-Tournai direction.
A car hit the concrete rail located on the right of the highway. The vehicle then took off, crossed the berm and ended up in the trees. When emergency workers arrived, the driver, aged between 40 and 50, had already died. He was alone in his car.
A SMUR, an ambulance, an extrication vehicle, a truck for beaconing, a tank for cleaning and a command vehicle had been dispatched to the scene.
