A 58-year-old lady from Lanaken (province of Limburg) was stabbed on Friday followingnoon, probably by her 57-year-old former companion. The latter then jumped into the Zuid-Willem canal near Boorsem (Maasmechelen). The 50-year-old was extracted from the water by a team of firefighter divers. He had already died, said the Limburg prosecutor’s office.
Local police were called around 2:00 p.m. to a knife fight. She discovered a stabbed lady. His state of health is not precisely known. A witness then said he saw a man jump into the canal in Boorsem.
Lab and investigative teams visited both locations. The investigation will have to determine if there is a link between the stabbing and the drowning.
