An Ohio family is in shock after the sudden death of their four-year-old daughter just two days after entering the hospital for what seemed to be a common cold, several American media report.

Young Maisie had had a congested nose and cough for several days when her parents decided to take her to the emergency room last Saturday because they found that their daughter was listless.

She was therefore admitted to Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital in Cleveland, where her condition quickly deteriorated.

Doctors then placed her in an induced coma and later discovered a brain hemorrhage, in addition to finding that the child had suffered a stroke in the right hemisphere of her brain.

On Sunday, his kidneys started to malfunction, according to his mother Christin Brigadier

“However, this is not the main problem at the moment. Nothing is working well,” she wrote on Facebook.

Maisie also experienced a “heart problem” during her hospitalization and had surgery to relieve pressure on one of her ventricles.

On Monday, the girl’s mother explained that doctors were going to “remove part of the skull from the right side to relieve pressure.”

“Sick as Maisie is now, she could die during the operation,” wrote Christin Brigadier in a message published Monday. She also explained that her daughter had to be put on dialysis, but that her condition had become “out of control”.

On Tuesday morning, Maisie’s parents announced that the four-year-old had died after they agreed to disconnect the devices that were keeping her artificially alive.

“There was simply nothing more we could do,” the parents said.
