Since the death of three-year-old Wassim Taoussi last Saturday and the arrest of his father, Mohammed, on Wednesday, the village of Habay-la-Vieille has been in turmoil, affected by this family tragedy.
The circumstances of little Wassim’s death are not yet known, but according to initial findings he was the victim of mistreatment and violent beatings.
On Saturday, according to our colleagues at TV Lux, it was the dad who called for help. When they arrived, the child was unconscious. They were unable to save him.
An investigation was opened, led by the SER (Investigation and Research Service) of Arlon, with the support of the PJF (Federal Judicial Police). The little boy’s body was examined.
The first elements of the investigation led to the father’s arrest. Mohammed Taoussi was placed under arrest warrant on Wednesday. He is suspected of murder.
At this stage, neither the Prosecutor’s Office nor its lawyer wish to provide confirmation or comment. This Friday, the Council Chamber will decide whether or not to continue detention of the father of the family.

Mother died in car accident
The family had experienced another tragedy a few months ago. Wassim’s mother, Norma Prester, died in February in a car accident near Beauraing. The couple was separated, and it was mainly Mohammed who took care of their son.
Little Wassim will be buried this Saturday afternoon in the Habay-la-Vieille cemetery, where a farewell ceremony will be organized in his tribute.
