Tragic Suicide in Huy: Emergency Services Unable to Save Man in Meuse River

Sunday morning, a tragic accident took place in Huy, in the Liège province. It was near the lower station of the cable car that a man decided to throw himself into the Meuse, as reported by Sudinfo. “It would be suicide,” said the rescue zone. In fact, before jumping into the water, the man in his sixties would have warned a passerby. The latter then called the firefighters from the Hemeco emergency zone at 10:54 a.m., our colleagues report.

Emergency services rushed to the scene but had to face a dangerous operation. The cause is the excessive flow of water. “Currently, the flow rate is 942m3, it is much too high,” the emergency zone explained to our colleagues. “We don’t know where the body is going to go and it’s far too dangerous to intervene.”

Unfortunately, emergency services were unable to save the sixty-year-old. “By the time to intervene, it was too late. We stayed there for regarding twenty minutes to check if we saw him come to the surface or try to swim, but no.”
