A boy named Caleb Ziegelbaur, 14, contracted the brain-eating amoeba disease after catching an insect while swimming at the beach. This minor beat death after contracting a brain infection that has a mortality rate of 97%. This unusual event occurred in Florida.
For nearly a year, Ziegelbau was in the hospital fighting a brain-eating amoeba after contracting it while snorkeling off the beach in Port Charlotte last July.

In this regard, the doctors detected that the young man was infected by Naegleria fowleri, which is fatal in 97% of cases. Only four people out of 154 who contracted this microscopic being in the United States between 1962 and 2021 survived.
Specialists believe it entered through Caleb’s nose and infected his brain.
