A tragic traffic accident occurred early Monday morning on an interstate highway near Atlanta, Georgia, killing five teenagers and injuring three others. The incident has shocked the Gwinnett County community, where the victims resided.
According to the Gwinnett County Police Department in a statement, the accident occurred just before 4:00 am Monday on an ramp connecting SR 316 west to I-85 south in the Duluth area.
The car, which was carrying eight people, ran over the wall of the flyover ramp, falling onto the lanes of the interstate, where he was struck by another car.
Arriving at the scene, rescuers found five people dead and three others injured. The fatalities were identified as Katy Gaitan, 17; Ashley Gaitan, 16; Coral Lorenzo, 17; Hung Nguyen, 18; and Abner Santana, also 18 years old.

Three of the fatalities were students at Lakeside High School in DeKalb County, police confirmed.

The fatal accident caused the temporary closure of several lanes and ramps on I-85 south and SR 316 west, creating traffic congestion in the area. Police later reopened traffic around noon on Monday.
