Tragically, a young peasant dies in the Cerrejón mine

Juan Diego Ramírez Consuegra passed away this afternoon when he was inside the Cerrejón mine, carrying out a task typical of his work.

Consternation in a large part of Riohacha and in the mining complex itself, due to the tragic death this Saturday afternoon of the young peasant, who died violently when he was in the workshop section together with another partner fixing a caterpillar tractor.

The fatal victim was identified as Juan Diego Ramirez Consuegra, 21 years olda native of Riohacha, who lived with his parents in the Tawaira neighborhood of the District.

The first unofficial versions indicate that the unfortunate young man was working with another colleague in a Caterpillar lifting to remove a platform with a crane bridge, but it apparently got stuck and by putting more pressure on it with the bridge, the pendulum was released and hit the young man on one side of the face Juan Diego Ramírezleaving him with an open wound.

I immediately know asked for help, the brigade members arrived who immediately transferred him unconscious to the care center, but minutes later he died.

Staff operations were immediately halted who was close to the fateful episode that today has shocked a large part of the department of La Guajira.

Cerrejón statement

The multinational regrets to inform that today, November 19, our fellow apprentice, Juan Diego Ramírez Consuegra, died in an accident in the maintenance workshop.

The company expresses its most sincere condolences to his family and friends, as well as to all his colleagues, and will be providing the support they require in these painful moments.

The authorities have already been informed and are conducting the relevant investigations.

Also, the Guajira Regional Sena also spoke out in solidarity with the family and close friends of Juan Diego Ramírez Consuegra, who died while carrying out his work in the Cerrejón Maintenance Workshop.

However, we allow ourselves to clarify that the young man was not a Sena apprentice. His learning process was in force with TecnoGuajira in the Technical Labor Program in Mining Equipment Maintenance.
