As Nihon Falcom prepares for the September 17, 2026 release of Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter, the studio has rolled out the Version 1.07 “Legacy Patch” for the initial installment across Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam. According to developer notes, this final update bridges continuity gaps by realigning English terminology, system text, and voice pronunciation with later entries in the overarching JRPG series.
Aligning Lore and Localization Across the Series
When Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter launched last year, its terminology occasionally diverged from the established standards set by later localized entries in the broader Trails canon. With Version 1.07, publishers Falcom and GungHo have stepped in to iron out those discrepancies.
According to official release documentation, the primary design philosophy behind this patch was easing the transition for players moving from the first game into subsequent sequels. They preserved character names and terminology strictly exclusive to the Trails in the Sky games to protect the experience of newcomers, while aggressively overhauling lore elements that carry heavy continuity weight into the upcoming sequel.
The Technical and Terminological Overhaul
The patch notes detail sweeping revisions to user interface strings, system text, and specific gameplay mechanics. For instance, several quartz naming conventions have been completely restructured. “Arts Defense” is now officially “Shield,” “Sweet Aroma” has been changed to “Scent,” “Heat Haze” is now “Haze,” and “Hidden Leaf Cloak” becomes “Revelation.” Furthermore, all “Blade-Type” quartz names now mirror the specific status ailments they inflict to match later titles, while “Shield-Type” quartz variants have been renamed “Guard-Type” to eliminate naming collisions with the newly designated Shield quartz.
Location data also received major surgery. The names of the Tetracyclic Towers—critical set pieces for the narrative arc of 2nd Chapter—have been reverted to match original series terminology. The Jade Tower is now the Esmelas Tower, Amber Tower becomes Amberl Tower, Crimson Tower shifts to Carnelia Tower, and Azure Tower is now Sapphirl Tower. Additional legacy terms were updated across the board:
- Orbal golem is now Archaism
- Hundred Day War is now Hundred Days War
- Lord of the lake is now Guardian of the lake
- Exposure quartz is now Photo-quartz
- Bitter Tomato is now Acerbic Tomato
- Grand Charine is now Grand Chardonnay
Audio Revisions and Regional Fixes
Beyond text adjustments, Version 1.07 tackles spoken dialogue. Voice actors re-recorded specific lines to update pronunciations for major proper nouns including Liberl, Calvard, Zin, Loewe, Hamel, Auslese, and Zemuria. Official developer notes clarify that while the vast majority of affected voice lines have been patched, a small subset of legacy audio could not be revised and remains in its original state.
European localization also sees targeted improvements. French and German text assets were updated to boost overall consistency and accuracy, accompanied by widespread bug fixes addressing grammatical errors and dialogue pacing across the board. Certain in-game graphic assets have likewise been swapped out to reflect the updated terminology, ensuring visual and textual data match seamlessly as players transition directly into the September release.
