Trains cancelled, travelers stranded… Rail traffic severely disrupted in the Liège region after the attack on a guide

Rail traffic is disrupted this Sunday in the Liège region following an emotional reaction by SNCB workers after the attack on Sunday morning of a guide.

Shortly before 7:00 p.m., around thirty trains had been partially or completely canceled in the regions of Welkenraedt, Eupen, Pepinster and Liège. The connection between Liège and Maastricht is also affected. Replacement buses have been put in place to offer an alternative to travelers, said Marianne Hiernaux, spokesperson for SNCB.

The attack took place on Sunday morning around 8 a.m. A guide was threatened with a knife while checking the tickets. She was not injured. The attacker, who was with two other people, was arrested by the police.

“The SNCB strongly condemns any act of aggression and calls for zero tolerance in the face of this violence suffered by workers in the service of customers. We want a sanction commensurate with the seriousness of the facts”, continued the spokesperson in ensuring that the company will file a complaint and become a civil party.

We do not know for the moment the duration of the movement launched by the workers at the beginning of the afternoon.
