Tram Construction in Liège: Impact on Businesses and Urgent Need for Solutions

2023-08-24 12:01:22

In Liège, work on the tram continues. The construction has been going on for months. And the situation is more and more critical at the level of businesses. Closures are increasing, as we have seen in the city center.

We need the flow from Liège to meet our needs

In the Ardent City, the tram works have turned the city center upside down. A place that is less and less frequented. Result: many Horeca establishments and businesses have no choice but to close.

The problem is not the absence of tourists – who were quite numerous this summer -, but it is above all that of the inhabitants of Liège. “We need the Liège flow to be able to meet our needs” confides Jean-Luc Vasseur, the president of the ASBL Commerces Liégeois. “A hairdresser or an optician does not live from tourism.”

Traders and restaurateurs are impatiently awaiting the end of the year. The work of the tram in the hypercentre should indeed be finished at the end of November.
