Fast and strong ‘Pro Ultimate’ released
After NAND sales rebounded with ‘Super Gap’

▲ Pro Ultimate Undisputed No. 1 in global NAND flash market share (34%) Samsung Electronics is once again starting to rebound NAND sales, which are slower to recover than DRAM, with an advanced memory card at the forefront. Samsung Electronics has maintained its No. 1 position in this field since 2002.

Samsung Electronics announced on the 29th that it will release a new SD card and micro SD card with enhanced speed and stability, ‘Pro Ultimate’. The Pro Ultimate product line is a memory card that provides the optimal solution for professional photographers and video producers, and provides stable performance not only for smooth operation of high-capacity content, but also for repetitive data reading, writing, and erasing operations.

The family offers up to 200MB/s (megabytes per second) read and 130MB/s write speeds. The continuous reading speed of 200MB/s is the speed at which a 1.3GB (gigabyte) movie can be transferred from a PC to a memory card in 11.2 seconds. It satisfies the video speed class V30 that supports continuous writing speed of 30MB/s, so it can transfer high-capacity files such as 4K UHD and FHD videos quickly.

It is waterproof for up to 72 hours at a depth of 2m and prevents damage even when dropped from a height of up to 5m, protecting data safely even in extreme external environments such as waterproofing, falling, abrasion, X-rays, magnetic fields, and temperature changes. SD cards can withstand shocks of up to 1500g.

Samsung Electronics applied a 28-nano controller to this product lineup, improving power efficiency by up to 37% compared to the previous one. As a result, Samsung Electronics explained that the device can be used for a long time without frequent recharging.

The size of the memory card market using NAND flash is expected to continue growing at an average annual rate of 21.4%, reaching 63.5 billion GB in 2027 from 29.2 billion GB in 2023 due to increased demand for new devices and high-capacity content. According to market researcher Omdia, the NAND flash market has grown by 27.2% this year compared to last year, but it is expected to show a high annual average growth rate of 20.13% from this year to 2027.

An industry insider said, “The NAND market will turn to growth from now on, to the extent that there is a saying that ‘today is the darkest.’
