The authorities of the unrecognized Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic intend to seek independence with subsequent free accession to Russia. This was stated by the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the republic Vitaly Ignatiev.

“The vector of Pridnestrovie has remained unchanged throughout the years of the existence of the republic, which is reflected in the results of the referendum on September 17, 2006, where it is clearly indicated: independence with subsequent free accession to the Russian Federation. The independence of the country is an absolute priority,” Ignatiev said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

According to the Foreign Minister, in defense of the concept of sovereignty and broad recognition of Pridnestrovie, international legal arguments have long been formulated, which hardly anyone can dispute. “Pridnestrovie will not make any decisions to the detriment of the half-million people of the country, it will act pragmatically and honestly,” he added.
