Transparency: Wearing a touch of nothing this winter

Only more or less visible, but still omnipresent even in winter: the transparent skirt. This is behind the fashion trend.

Another 90s trend is making a comeback. It has already been worn up and down the catwalks of designers such as Miu Miu and Gucci: the transparent skirt. It covers, but allows almost everything that is hidden underneath to shine through.

Sheer skirts were featured at the Miu Miu Fall/Winter 2023 show.

A sheer, transparent skirt can be the eye-catcher of your outfit – even in winter. The skirt, which is almost a touch of nothing, follows the hype surrounding transparent dresses. The skirt trend is, so to speak, the little sister of the dress version that is more suitable for everyday use. Because with a transparent skirt you can present different looks – and layer a lot of clothing over and under it.

Combination with a long top

Influencer Anna Winck shows how a longer top can make a transparent skirt look a little more dressed. She wears a short, transparent skirt with embroidery, combined with an XXL sweatshirt jacket and leather boots. The jacket goes slightly over the hips.

Content creator Kezia Rose Cook also wears a lace skirt that actually reveals everything except her underwear. But she combines it with a long wool sweater that goes down to her hips.

She also combines the look with boots. At least you stay warm at the top and your calves are also protected from the cold. Admittedly, the look works for late autumn, but in the really deep winter it becomes rather difficult – or rather cold.

Covered under the skirt

You can also layer clothing with a sheer skirt in another way. Because the look also works if you wear a top that you tuck into the skirt. It can be the counterpart to a skirt – and cover you despite the transparency. This is how influencer Eliza Grace Huber styles it with a long blouse.

But she also shows how it works without an extra long top. Eliza Grace Huber wears the same transparent skirt in combination with a black top that does not go over the hips. You can see the underwear, but she chooses it to be plain and black. Despite the transparency, the look appears reserved.

Can’t you imagine wearing thin fabrics in winter? For those who find the trend too cold: The transparent skirts can also be combined with eye-catching – or inconspicuous – tights.
