Travis Scott avoids criminal prosecution after killing 10 people at one of his parties

American rapper Travis Scott will not be criminally prosecuted, due to a crowd stampede that killed ten people during the Astroworld festival, which the singer was co-organizing in Texas, in November 2021, according to what the judicial authorities announced, yesterday, Thursday.

Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg’s office announced that “no criminal charges will be filed against the singer.”

“It is tragic that 10 innocent people who wanted to enjoy an evening of music and entertainment were killed,” the public prosecutor said, adding: “But tragedy is not always a crime, and death does not always constitute murder.”

On November 5, 2021, about 50,000 spectators gathered at NRG Park in Houston to attend Travis Scott’s concert before dozens of people found themselves trapped in a crowd stampede, while some lost consciousness and were trampled by the crowd.

Event organizers waited tens of minutes before stopping the party and evacuating the venue.

A nine-year-old boy was killed in the stampede, which also left hundreds injured.

Several lawsuits have been filed against the organizers of the Astroworld Festival, accusing them of not ensuring the safety of the participants.

These lawsuits affected Travis Scott, who was on stage at the time of the tragedy, the promoters of the festival and those responsible for the site where the concert was held, and a number of companies related to the festival.

The judicial decision issued on Thursday includes criminal prosecutions only, while civil lawsuits are still possible.
