Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross are providing the score for David Fincher’s The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth, marking their sixth collaboration with the director. Netflix revealed their involvement on the official film poster, setting a global IMAX release for November 25 before a December 23 streaming debut.
The Partnership Behind the Sound
- Reznor and Ross are reuniting with David Fincher for their sixth film together, following previous collaborations including The Social Network, Gone Girl, and Mank.
- The musical duo’s involvement was confirmed when Netflix published the official film poster, listing their names in the credits.
- The feature arrives in IMAX theaters globally on November 25 for a two-week run before launching on Netflix on December 23.
Uncovering the Score on the IMAX Poster
The confirmation arrived quietly on social media. Earlier today, Netflix debuted the official poster for The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth. Viewers inspecting the fine print at the bottom of the promotional image discovered the credits confirming Reznor and Ross as composers.
This project extends a long-standing creative relationship between the Nine Inch Nails bandmates and Fincher. Their history dates back to 2010’s The Social Network, which won the Academy Award for Best Original Score in 2011. Subsequent collaborations included The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, Gone Girl, Mank, and 2023’s The Killer.

From Tarantino’s Script to Fincher’s Final Cut
Written by Quentin Tarantino, The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth functions as a follow-up to 2019’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. The narrative shifts forward to 1977, placing Brad Pitt’s stuntman character eight years after the events of the original film. Alongside Pitt, the ensemble cast features Elizabeth Debicki, Scott Caan, Carla Gugino, Timothy Olyphant, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Peter Weller.
Adapting Tarantino’s screenplay required significant structural trimming. In an interview with Empire Magazine, Fincher noted that Tarantino’s initial draft operated as two separate movies. To achieve a runtime of roughly two hours and 20 minutes, Fincher cut 60 pages from the script.

| Project | Director | Release Year | Key Accolade |
|---|---|---|---|
| The Social Network | David Fincher | 2010 | Academy Award for Best Original Score |
| The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo | David Fincher | 2011 | Grammy Award for Best Score Soundtrack |
| Challengers | Luca Guadagnino | Golden Globe Award for Best Original Score (2025) |
Recent Projects and Publishing Plans
Outside of their work with Fincher, Reznor and Ross maintain an extensive scoring schedule. They recently scored Luca Guadagnino’s Challengers, earning a Golden Globe Award in 2025, and received a Grammy nomination earlier this year for a track from the Tron: Ares soundtrack credited to Nine Inch Nails. Their recent output also includes Queer, Soul, and Bird Box, alongside collaborative releases like April’s Nine Inch Noize with Boys Noize.
A novelization of the film will arrive on December 8, serving as a follow-up to 2021’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood: A Novel.
