Evelio “Yiyo” Ramallo began to be tried this Monday in the San Francisco courts, accused of being the mastermind of the murder of José Luis Cáceres (48), which occurred in February 2022 in the city of Morteros.

For this first hearing, four witnesses were expected to participate, including two sons of the fatal victim who was shot that morning in front of the house where he lived with his mother.

They are the brothers Maximiliano and Emiliano Cáceres, the latter prisoner. Both of them, with the passing of the minutes, made it clear that there was a lot of fear in different witnesses for declaring, taking into account that they could receive reprisals.

It should be remembered that eight people are accused of this crime. The trial is with eight popular juries and three technical juries.

On the bench

In addition to Ramallo, who follows the hearings by videoconference from the prison in the city of Rawson (capital of the province of Chubut), where he is staying, on the first floor of the San Francisco court building were Tomás Julián Lazcano, who at that time he was 17 years old and he is accused of having been the alleged perpetrator of the crime of homicide qualified by the use of a firearm; Jésica Noel Suárez, charged as a necessary participant; Magalí Patricia Bertona and Kevin Joel Funes, who are charged as secondary participants in the crime of homicide.

From left to right and against the wall, behind the defense lawyers: Lascano, Funes and Suárez, in the defendants’ dock. They are tried for the murder of José Luis Cáceres in Morteros.

The case also has three other defendants for aggravated concealment: Luciana Andrea Bustos, Lucila Daiana Cabrera and Joaquín Nicolás Conti.

What does the prosecution say?

Chamber prosecutor Consuelo Aliaga spoke to the popular juries to present the case and held Ramallo responsible for having been the person who ordered the murder of Cáceres: “It was a dispute over the territory of the drug,” he said.

As reported in the courtroom, between 1 and 1:30 on February 13, 2022, by order of Ramallo, Bertona and Funes went to Cáceres’ home to make sure he was there. But it was only at 4 in the morning, when Suárez and Lazcano would have appeared on the scene for the execution.

According to the strongest hypothesis, there was a “dispute” between Ramallo and Cáceres over the sale of drugs in Morteros.

“Ramallo saw at the time (when he lived in Morteros for a while from Rafaela, Santa Fe) a great business opportunity that he later continued to manage while in prison.”

Aliaga also pointed out that “Yiyo” uses “lieutenants” in each place and “turns them into his arm on the street” and referred to the role of Jésica Noel Suárez. “He was Ramallo’s right-hand man, he organized the logistics,” he explained.

The idea is that next Friday there will be a sentence.
