These results, alongside strong showings in junior and development events, paint a picture of a dynamic and competitive triathlon landscape.

Americas Cup La Paz: Alvarez Solis and Beaulieu Triumph

The Americas Triathlon Cup La Paz delivered thrilling races in both the men’s and women’s fields. In the women’s race, Marcela Alvarez Solis (MEX) secured a decisive victory, finishing the sprint distance race with a 24-second lead. The race began with a strong swim performance from Kelly Wettland (USA) and Alexandra Campbell (CAN), who gained a significant 30-second advantage over their competitors. Alvarez Solis found herself in a chase pack alongside Margareta Vrablova (SVK) and Ana Maria Valentina Torres Gomez (MEX), working to close the gap on the leaders. Despite Wettland maintaining a 10-second lead into the second transition (T2), Alvarez Solis’s blistering 5km run split of 16:07 proved unbeatable. Wettland secured silver, while Torres Gomez edged out Vrablova by 3 seconds to claim the bronze medal.

The men’s race saw Mathis Beaulieu (CAN) seize the top spot, capitalizing on a strong bike leg alongside Keller Norland (USA) after initially losing ground during the swim, where Blake Bullard (USA) led. Beaulieu’s exceptional running ability shone through, as he completed the 5km run in 14:14, securing a 29-second victory. Bullard finished strongly with a 14:12 run split to take silver, and Norland rounded out the podium in third place. Beaulieu is set to begin his World Cup campaign in Haikou in two weeks, with further WTCS appearances on the horizon.

Junior Championships: Rising Stars Shine in Mexico

The North Americas Junior Championships, also held in La Paz, showcased the next generation of triathlon talent. Regina Michel Camacho (MEX) dominated the women’s race, delivering a commanding performance from start to finish. She exited the water in third place and controlled the race from the lead pack, ultimately securing victory with a remarkable 17:01 5km run split – the fastest of the field – finishing 43 seconds ahead of her nearest competitor. Avalyn Thompson (USA) took second, and Argelia Pérez Olivera (MEX) completed the podium.

Graham Hummel (USA) mirrored Camacho’s assertive performance in the men’s race, leading from the swim with a time of 8:02 for the 750m, ahead of Luis Miguel Chávez Sanchez (MEX). The pair quickly established a significant lead on the bike, leaving their rivals over 30 seconds behind. Hummel then sealed his victory with a 15:16 run split, finishing 25 seconds ahead of Chávez Sanchez. Jesus Daniel Hernández Bobadilla (MEX) secured the bronze medal in a close finish, just one second behind Chávez.

Earlier in the month, the South Americas Junior Championships took place in Formosa, where Gabriele Reis (BRA) won the women’s gold and Thomas Francisco Chica Perez led an Ecuadorian sweep of the junior men’s podium. These champions are expected to compete at the Americas Junior Championships later this year.

Dutch Dominance in Africa and Development Cup Success

The Africa Cup Ebotse saw a double victory for the Netherlands, with Robin Dreijling and Gjalt Panjer claiming gold medals in the men’s and women’s races, respectively. Dreijling benefited from a strong partnership with Rebecca Beti (SUI) on the bike, establishing a significant lead after a 20km cycle where she clocked 30:08, with no other competitor faster than 31:44. She then secured her gold medal with a 17:47 5km run split. Katrin Maes (BEL) took silver, and three-time Olympian Julia Hauser (AUT) claimed bronze with the fastest run of the day at 17:11. Panjer’s victory was similarly dominant, benefiting from a strong front group on the bike before securing a 30-second win with a 15:24 5km run split.

Elsewhere, Zoe Adam (PUR) continued her impressive form, winning her third consecutive Development Regional Cup in Salinas. She dominated the sprint distance race, achieving the fastest splits in all three disciplines (10:06 swim, 34:07 bike, 18:22 run) and winning by over 3 minutes. Isabella Fernandez and Valentina Sofia Negron completed a Puerto Rican sweep of the podium. In the men’s race, Gerlad Rojas Carvajal (CRC) claimed victory with a 16:03 5km run split, followed by Jorge Raul Cabinal Gramajo (GUA) and Samuel Zuluaga Cardona (COL).
