A week ago, to the day, a fire broke out in a home in Huy, six people, an entire family, lost their lives. This Wednesday, a final tribute will be paid to this couple and their four daughters. “It’s a very sad day. We never experienced this and I wish we never experienced it“, testifies Éric Dosogne, the mayor of the town. For the tragic occasion, the town will contribute to the burial costs which, for six people at a time, are high: “Usually, the public authorities take charge when people are not likely to be able to guarantee the burial of their loved ones.“
The general sadness is joined by that of the firefighters who are present en masse: “This is rarely done, but it was important for men. This allows us to put an end to this intervention at a professional level, with this symbolic act to pay tribute to the victims.“, says Christophe Jadot, captain and commander of operations on the day of the tragedy. Firefighters from the Hemeco zone intervened for seven hours that night.
The funeral takes place in the Collegiate Church of Huy. Many people are present, a white flower in their hands.
