New Delhi: The Trinamool Congress has decided to abstain from voting in the vice-presidential election in which Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankar is contesting as the NDA candidate. Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Governor Jagdeep Dhankar and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma met in Darjeeling a few days ago. It is noteworthy that Mamata Banerjee’s party decided to abstain from the polls after this.
Jagdeep Dhankar is the NDA candidate and Congress leader Margaret Alva is the joint opposition candidate. The Vice President election is on August 6. According to reports, Governor and NDA candidate Jagdeep Dhankar had sought the support of Mamata’s party in the polls.
At the same time, Mamata Banerjee coordinated the opposition’s moves in the selection of the candidate for the presidential election. Apart from that, Mamata made the leader of her own party a candidate for the presidential election, removing her from party responsibilities.
