Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has extended his wishes of “peace and blessings” to all those celebrating Eid al-Fitr in Canada and around the world.

This is what emerges from a statement posted on Monday on the website of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, on the occasion of the celebration of Aid al-Fitr, which marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

“After a month of fasting, charity and spiritual reflection, Eid al-Fitr is a time to come together and celebrate,” the statement read.

Trudeau writes that “one of the most important holidays in Islam, Eid al-Fitr offers families and friends the chance to come together to pray, feast and spend quality time together.”

“Although the last two years have been difficult for all of us, we have been able to draw inspiration from the values that are at the heart of Islam – generosity, peace, compassion and gratitude. These values will continue to help us recover from the pandemic and move forward with optimism and hope,” said the Canadian Prime Minister.

“Eid al-Fitr is also a time to recognize the important contributions that Muslim Canadians have made – and continue to make – to our country. Across Canada, Muslims are showing kindness and generosity by donating to charities and supporting important causes,” continued Trudeau.

The Canadian Prime Minister believes that: “Diversity is one of our greatest strengths, and we will continue to take action to combat Islamophobia and hatred in all its forms, including by appointing a special representative to combat Islamophobia”.

“Together, we will continue to build a better, fairer and more inclusive world for all,” he said.

“On behalf of our family, Sophie and I wish peace and blessings to all who celebrate Eid here and around the world,” concluded Trudeau.
