In Mr. Trump’s eyes, truckers and their supporters have been looked down upon and treated unfairly by the Canadian government.

“Truckers, workers and patriotic families stood up for the most basic rights. They were violently suppressed. Their assets and savings have been frozen, they have been called Nazis, racists and terrorists,” the former president said in a flurry of speech Saturday night before the annual high mass of Republicans, Conservative Political Action. Conference (CPAC) being held this weekend in Orlando, Florida.

According to the politician, the Canadian government has gone so far as to file charges for “false crimes” against “peaceful protesters”.

“I looked at them I saw the maple leaves on their flags and their love for their country. […] They are hunted down as enemies by their own government and treated like drug dealers or murderers,” Trump said.

“A line has been crossed. You are either with the peaceful truckers or with the fascists of the left”, added the former president, assuring that he stands “with the Canadian people who want to regain their freedom”.

This is not the first time that Mr. Trump has openly shown his support for the demonstrators, who have benefited from the support of many Americans who have contributed millions of dollars to support the “freedom convoys”.

Earlier this month, the former president notably called Prime Minister Justin Trudeau a “far-left lunatic who destroyed Canada with insane mandates on COVID-19”.
