HALLE, Germany (AP) — Stefanos Tsitsipas, Daniil Medvedev and Denis Shapovalov reached the first round of the Halle Open on Monday, though Tsitsipas had to come from behind to advance in the grass-court tournament.

Second-seeded Tsitsipas of Greece battled 2 hours and 22 minutes to defeat Frenchman Gregoire Barrere 6-7 (6), 6-4, 7-6 (3).

Tsitsipas, coming off a loss to French veteran Richard Gasquet in Stuttgart last week, looked doomed for another early elimination as he trailed a set 3-1 in the second set. But he reacted in time to meet Chilean Nicolás Jarry in the second round.

Jarry, who had just reached the round of 16 at Roland Garros, dispatched Frenchman Corentin Moutet 6-3, 7-5.

Medvedev, the top seed and runner-up at last year’s Halle event, defeated American Marcos Girón 6-4 6-3. Canadian Denis Shapovalov defeated South African Lloyd Harris 7-6 (1), 6-4.
