Tsunoda’s Horror Crash: A Very Stupid Mistake

In the opening phase of the qualification in Imola things went completely wrong for Yuki Tsunoda. The Red Bull driver lost control in bend five, flew hard over the head and came to a halt in the tire stacks. Fortunately Tsunoda got out unharmed. He responds to the crash and apologizes.

“Very stupid of myself to push so hard,” Tsunoda tells Racingnews365, among others. “It was unnecessary. We have made many changes to the car and then it is unnecessary to push as hard if you don’t know the car completely. The first thing I felt was shame, disappointment and frustration.”

Tsunoda therefore puts his hand completely in its own bosom. “The only thing I can do is say sorry to the team. Of course the car is badly damaged, so the engineers have a lot of work to do towards Sunday. Hopefully we are ready for the race on time, but it is totally unnecessary for them and myself.”

Does it have to do with pressure? “I don’t think so. The team helps me and try to take away as much pressure as possible. I just tried to be a hero in Q1, totally unnecessary. I set myself the goal to survive with one set of softs Q1. If you change a lot, you don’t know how the car will respond to high, medium or slow speed. And with changes to the car.
