Tunisian Trade and Export Development Minister Fadhila Rabhi Ben Hamza has been removed from her post, the Tunisian presidency has announced. “President Kais Saied has decided to terminate the functions of the Minister of Trade and Export Development, Fadhila Rabhi Ben Hamza and the Governor of Sfax, Fakher Fakhfakh,” said a press release from the Presidency of the Republic.

The dismissal of the trade minister is the first of its kind since the formation of Najla Bouden’s government in October 2021.

The beating heart of the Tunisian economy, the region of Sfax, whose governor has been sacked, is facing a real environmental crisis and waste management issues, which have provoked several demonstrations and social tensions.
