The Tunisian ranked second in the world reached the third round of the Wimbledon tennis tournament on Wednesday, after an easy victory over Polish qualifier Katerzina Kawa, 6-4, 6-0. The Tunisian player, who this week became the best-ranked African player ever, faces Frenchwoman Diane Barry, ranked 77 in the world, for a place in the fourth round.

Ons, who reached second place in the world rankings with the start of the tournament and is the best in her career, is one of the leading contenders for the title after winning the Berlin title on grass two weeks ago.
The 27-year-old, who reached the quarter-finals of the tournament last year by finishing in the first round when she needed just 54 minutes to crush Myriam Björklund, appeared to be off. Ons won the previous two matches against her 29-year-old Polish opponent, and played fiercely from the start.
After exchanging early breaks, Anas managed to find weaknesses in the performance of Kawa, who is playing on grass for the first time, and broke her serve in the ninth game before taking the set in the next game.
Kawa appeared to suffer from a shoulder injury in the second set, and asked for treatment time when she was 3-0 down, and did not do much when she returned to the field. Ons stumbled when the match was decided, as she needed five chances to end the match. Ons, who this week became the best-ranked African player ever, will play France’s Diane Barry, ranked 77th in the world, for a place in the fourth round.
Djokovic continues his career
In men, Serbian Novak Djokovic, the defending champion in the last three editions, won his 23rd consecutive victory at Wimbledon, the third Grand Slam, to cross Wednesday to the third round.
Today saw the exit of many of the world’s top seed and women from the second round, such as the Norwegian Casper Ruud, the Roland Garros runner-up, the Estonian Annette Kontaveit and the Spanish Garbine Mugurosa.
Djokovic, the six-time Wimbledon champion, beat Australian Thanasi Kokinakis, ranked 79th in the world, 6-1, 6-4, 6-2 in just two hours.
The Serbian started his title defense campaign on Monday with a cautious victory over South Korea’s Kwon Soon-woo in four sets, but he raised his level on Monday and seemed happy with his performance.
