Turkey’s New Cabinet: Comprehensive Change to Boost Economic Recovery

Ankara: Recep Tayyip Erdogan formed a new cabinet in Turkey with a comprehensive change. All the former cabinet members have been replaced, except for the health and culture ministers. Internationally known economist Mehmet Simsek was given the charge of the finance department with the aim of recovering the economy. Simsek is known as an opponent of Erdogan’s economic policies. He has been the Finance Minister from 2009 to 2015.

The main challenge is to control inflation and raise the value of the currency. The Foreign Minister is Hakan Fidan, who is the head of the intelligence department and an ex-soldier. Yasser Guler, who was the army chief, is the defense minister. Sevdet Yilmes, who was the deputy chairman of Erdogan’s AK Party and Minister of Development, was also appointed as the vice president.

Ali Yerlikaya (Interior), Yilmaz Turk (Justice), Vedat Isikhan (Labor and Social Welfare), Mehmet Ohaseki (Environment), Alperslan Bayraktar (Energy), Usman Askin Bak (Sports), Mehmet Nuri Ersoy (Culture and Tourism), Fahratin Other ministers are Koca (Health), Ibrahim Yumakli (Agriculture and Forestry), Omar Bolat (Commerce) and Abdul Qadir Uraloglu (Transportation and Infrastructure).
