Turkish Cabinet to Hold Third Meeting in Ahlat for Battle of Manzikert Anniversary

The Presidential Cabinet will convene for the third time in Ahlat, a district in Turkey’s Bitlis province, as part of the 955th-anniversary commemorations of the Battle of Malazgirt.

Preparations Peak at the Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Millet Bahçesi

Preparations for the 955th-anniversary celebrations of the Battle of Malazgirt are complete, featuring the establishment of a traditional large tent alongside 50 tematik çadır (thematic tents) at the Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Millet Bahçesi, according to Yavuz Gülmez. The event area hosts cultural showcases connecting traditional Turkic and Islamic heritage with younger generations, complemented by gastronomic displays, athletic competitions, and aerial demonstrations by SoloTürk and Çelik Kanatlar.

Ahmet Karakaya inspected the festival grounds, arriving to a reception by mounted security units and motorize ekipler (motorized teams) before touring the regional tents alongside Özgür Kaya and Yavuz Gülmez. The region’s rich equestrian heritage is also on display, anchored by the Kökbörü final competition, with long-term plans from the Geleneksel Atlı Sporlar Federasyonu (Traditional Equestrian Sports Federation) to anchor the final organization in Ahlat.

The Third Ahlat Cabinet Meeting and State Schedule

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is scheduled to address the global community from the Ahlat festival grounds on August 25, delivering messages before presiding over the Presidential Cabinet meeting, as detailed by Habertürk. Following the conclusion of the local meetings and the cabinet session, President Erdoğan will travel to Malazgirt on August 26 to participate in the official anniversary ceremonies marking the historic victory.

This marks the third time the executive branch has held its formal cabinet session in the district. Officials note that critical administrative decisions will be finalized during the session before the leadership transitions to Malazgirt for the final day of national observances.

Looking Ahead to the Malazgirt Ceremonies

The festival running from August 23 to August 25 bridges historical remembrance with modern civic engagement, drawing international delegations and civil society organizations.
